Afghanistan Film Festival Cologne

The Afghanistan Film Festival Cologne in 2005 was the first festival program with work from a new wave of young talented Afghan filmmakers and with  some ground breaking effect. It helped pave the way especially for some female Afghan directors and actresses, in particular on the international but more importnt on the national Afghan level, where women in film, directors and actresses, continue to face many serious obstacles. Any invitation of this kind on the contrary can help them to get recognized in their home country and continue their work.

Support for the festival came from the German Foreign Office, the Bundeszentrale für Politische Bidung and the city of Cologne.
